1. It is not possible to catch a cold from being cold. It is associated with cold temperatures due to it being spread between people most successfully during winter, when houses are rarely aired and people stay in doors.
2. A sleeping bird would not fall from a branch. The leg tendons in a birds go around the back of the leg bones. When weight is put on them i.e. when a bird sits, it bends the legs, pulling the tendon and tightening the birds grip, much like a clamp.
3. It is possible to heat water to explosive temperatures. When heating water in the microwave you may have noticed it does not seem to boil. Without the bubbling action, the energy to turn liquid into gas is non existent. As a result the temperature is able to rise above the normal boiling point. If you were to take out and shake the container, it is likely that the water held inside would explode into steam. This is called ’superheated liquid’. The same is true with cold temperatures, water may suddenly turn to ice when taken out of the freezer (assuming it is able to get cold enough).
4. There have been roughly 60 billion deaths since 40,000 BC and the present day. In 40,000 BC the worlds population was around 500,000. The worlds current population is just over 6 Billion.
5. The sun loses 4 million tonnes in mass every second through monuclear reactions, and several million more in solar flares.
6. The end of a whip cracks because the energy from the initial source(wrist) is focused in on a smaller area as the whip tapers. If done correctly it moves through the air so quickly it creates a sonic boom, like a fighter jet.
