Getting past bloggers block

Blogging Add comments

I find it hard to post sometimes and I’m sure many of you do too. My main problem is distractions. My main PC is downstairs in the main living area and TV, music or discussions can distract me and I find it nearly impossible to focus. Sometimes I’ll sit on my bed with the laptop and blast out a post but that’s not always convenient.

If you’re finding it a slow day and you’re feeling lethargic try some of this handy hints;

Stick on some headphones and blast your music
I find a lot of the music I enjoy also aids me with concentration. Shutting out everything else lets you focus on one thing at a time plus you’re listening to something pleasant!

Go outside
A lot of our time is spent sitting at a computer, browsing blogs, forums and checking our stats. It’s to be expected that our minds get bored, stop focusing and need a break. I’ll often find ideas for posts online but on slow days there’s nothing like going outside and clearing your head. Plus we could all do with some fresh air and sunlight!

Write down every idea you have
I know I come up with ideas and forget about them an hour later. If I’m able to write a post when I get the idea it’s fine but that’s not always possible. Writing down every idea you have will a) make sure you don’t forget and b) even if you decide it’s not right for your blog now, it might be in a months time!

Cut down the length of your posts
While it’s important that everything you post is useful to your readers, there is no sense in writing an essay that covers five topics if you could split that into five shorter posts and still be interesting, you’ll have more posts to publish when you’re having a slow day.

Go to a bar
It’s all well and good to spend most of your waking hours on your blog, in fact in some cases it’s a necessity, but give yourself a break once in a while. Recharging your batteries and having new and fresh conversations with real people can only be beneficial. You wouldn’t let an office job take over your life, don’t like blogging!
