Mind Mapping your Posts

Blogging Add comments

I’ve discussed getting past Bloggers block before but here’s another method to solve the problem. Using what is known as a mind map you can discover subjects you have yet to cover and keep track of the ones you already have.

Below is a mind map for fishing, I don’t write about this subject but it’s good as any to explain what I mean;

mindmap

Normally I would do this by hand but a combination of smudging my example and my scanner not working properly means I’ve whipped this up in Photoshop. Starting with my main topic (fishing) I’ve created branches to cover some of the elements that are related to it, in this case, locations, equipment and bait.

The next step is to note the different things that make up the branch. Bait offers up artificial, flavourings, boilies, groundbaits and many more I haven’t covered. From this stripped down example you can see we have potentially 18 different topics to write about, more than enough to keep us busy.

This method can be applied to any topic and can be extended far beyond the example above, you may want to write several posts about types of fishing floats instead of one covering them all. I promise if you use this method you’ll find yourself with a great list of potential posts yet to be written!

What methods do you use?
Have you tried this method? How did it work for you?
