Positioning Adsense

Blogging, General Add comments

Adsense positioning in your Blog can make the difference between $100 a day and making nothing, and while there is no definitive location that all blogs should adhere too, general areas have been found to be more effective than others.

In March 2005 Darren Rowse posted an article explaining how moving one Adsense module doubled his revenue overnight. The location? Inside the body of the post;

His reasoning was that you should put your adverts where people are focusing, which in the case of a blog is the articles. As you can see in this post I switched my advert to the left side instead of the right. We read from left to right and it’s the first place your eye is drawn too, hopefully I will see improvements in earnings from this.

A second ideal spot for adverts is at the bottom of a post before the comments. If you have written a good article a visitor will check to see what others had to say about it, scrolling down to the advert as they do so. At the time of writing I have not implemented this yet but plan to do so very soon.

Now that Google has permitted up to three adverts on the same page it’s possible to go one step further, but it’s acknowledgement that web users are becoming increasingly ’advert blind’ and positioning has never been more important.
