It looks like Google had started their PageRank updates or so claims a poster at DP Forums who saw his site jump to PR7 over night. It’s around about this time everyone prays they’ve progressed enough to jump a few rankings (I know I am).
For those of you who don’t know what PR is, it’s the rating your site is given by Google ranging from 0 – 10, 10 being the highest. Currently I’m ranking at a lowly 2 but since the last update I’ve seen a fair bit of growth.
Why Bother Ranking Higher?
Well you’ll be higher up in the SERP’s (search engine results page) for your keywords but additionally you get to charge more for paid reviews with services like ReviewMe and PayperPost, awesome. Also remember that success breads success, the higher you rank the more people will want to pay you!
No one is 100% sure how to go about improving your sites PR but the idea behind it is the rest of the web votes on how good you are (check the highly scientific diagram to the left) and a few lengthy calculations later, Google has a rating for you.
We all know Backlinks play a big role in the process so get your name out there as much as possible, ideally on sites ranked higher than yourself. Be warned though, Google has publicly said if you’re selling links to get a better PR you’ll be punished.
So fingers crossed we all jump up in the rankings!
