I’ve been stuck on an Authority of just 50 for some time now, which I acknowledge is not an awful figure but the lack of growth can only be attributed to the awesome posts I’m yet to write. The importance of a Technorati ranking is starting to waiver anyhow due to the trains and schemes people are employing to jump up the ranking without decent content.
It was inevitable though, people will always abuse a service like this if given the chance. At first I was envious of the people getting 3000 backlinks over night, in fact I am still, but it won’t amount to much in terms of money. Services like ReviewMe that base your fee on Alexa, Technorati and other ratings will catch on soon enough.
I wouldn’t go as far as to discourage the practice though, the fact is nice guys finish last and in a competitive field such as this you can’t have too many morals. You might just see me participate in such a scheme, if only to see how effective it is.
