Social Links

Social Bookmarking essentially the process of bookmarking a page you think is good and letting other people take a look. Different methods are used to do this, from the Digg story submissions to the Stumble Upon browser bar. They are a goldmines of traffic just waiting to be tapped and while some are easier than others to get at, all will produce results.

Offering your readers the ability to bookmark your post in the different services is the first port of call. I use a plugin called Sociable which has over 50 services integrated. You can pick the ones you want to show and in which order. This is what you see at the bottom of my posts (At the time of writing) :

So you’ve given your readers the chance to submit your post, but you can always submit it yourself. I personally submit all major posts to StumbleUpon and del.icio.us, ping Technorati and if I think it’s suitable, Digg. If you get picked up and shoved to the forfront of a site like Digg you’ll see massive traffic spikes but services like del.icio.us and StumbleUpon offer small but steady traffic, something I prefer.

Here is a list of all the Social Bookmarking site I have been able to find in order of PR. At the time of writing they are ranked correctly but if you find they’ve changed or links have gone dead please let me know so I can update them. Not all of these are suitable for every type of blog but I have no doubt every one will be useful to someone.
